I read an article this morning that said we had come back for our condensed session to take up “priority bills.” Amid a global pandemic, this bill made the cut? I don’t share those “priorities,” I guess. Red Flag laws are common-sense, bipartisan laws meant to protect us all. 1/ https://twitter.com/carmenmforman/status/1262889626437591040
Now more than ever, folks are experiencing the most extreme version of their domestic lives. Now more than ever, a loved one will know when their partner/child/parent/etc is not in the right mindset. That’s the idea behind these laws. But it’s an election year. Still, this? 2/
First, it’s not anti-2A to support red flag laws. If you can get past catchphrase-based policymaking, this is a reasonable thing: https://twitter.com/repdancrenshaw/status/1158059710609788929?s=21 3/ https://twitter.com/repdancrenshaw/status/1158059710609788929
Second, what we need right now is a competent unemployment office, expanded healthcare access, a robust vote-by-mail program—State government that doesn’t govern from crisis to crisis while our people are living paycheck to paycheck. These are priorities. These help Oklahomans.
