So.... I'm starting a relief fund to support some of the most at risk communities during COVID-19. It's way too long to explain in a tweet so please, share this thread, and read on for how this got started and how you can easily get involved/make a huge impact.... (1/8)
First, the WHAT. http://wantnotneedfund.com was started as a personal habit. I came upon a giving thread and instead of buying a coffee maker I didn't need, I donated the cost to people in the thread. I received DMs showing me the immense amount of food & medicine it provided. (2/8)
Second, the WHY. I wanted it to be a habit. Donate my *wants* to people's actual *needs*. Talking about it with others, I realized people wanted ways to support but weren't sure how. So with the AMAZING help of @shivanibanfal & co, we decided to make this habit into a fund. (3/8)
Third, the WHERE. The goal is to make the most impact where the need is highest. In order to do so, we’ve chosen 5 organizations in high need communities which the fund will be contributing to on a rotating basis weekly. Read more here. https://www.wantnotneedfund.com/about (4/8)
So, what can YOU do? Adopt this habit with me. We want this to become an easy habit that doesn't burden. $5 for coffee you make at home, send it to the fund. Or 10% of those sneakers you can't wear right now, send it. These wants add up to supporting someone’s actual needs (5/8)
Lastly, the HOW. We wanted to make it hyper accessible so we take donations through Venmo ( @wantnotneedfund) & Cashapp ($wantnotneedfund). If you're at the grocery store and decide against buying more tortilla chips (you know you have some left), donate those $ to the fund. (6/8)
The premise is simple: Big or small, if we incorporate this into our daily habits, the dollars really do add up. $5, $10 or $20 here or there that we don't spend on our wants -- can go towards supporting other communities' very real needs. (7/8)
Finally, follow us on @wantnotneedfund on here & IG. Donate through venmo & cashapp @'s in bios. Read more on our website http://wantnotneedfund.com and please.. if you incorporate donating your little wants throughout the day, we can make a massive impact on people's actual needs!
