Today is the 23rd anniversary of The Lost World: Jurassic Park. It has a bad script, I can't deny it, but I have really grown to appreciate its portrayal of dinosaurs. (Thread)

This is my favourite CGI shot in the whole franchise:
Other than their giant size, the Stegosaurus are really good for their time, and it is awesome that they show them living in herds consisting of both adults and juveniles, which we know from trackway evidence they really did!
"Carnivore? No, no, herbivore. Late Cretaceous."

I love how it fairly organically teaches you about the animals in the film. The franchise has basically dropped this all together past this film. The Pachycephalosaurus is also pretty good for the time and should be brought back.
These sauropods look absolutely fantastic. The CGI in this film is breathtaking even 23 years on.
I love how much effort they go into showing the dinosaurs as complex animals with parental care and family structure. In the Jurassic World films all they do is stand in fields and fight each other.
I miss when they actually put effort into getting the animals right. People who say they never did are wrong. They took some artistic licence, but they tried!

Also the Procompsognathus is the best design in the franchise do not @ me.
It seems people either love or hate the rex in San Diego sequence. I personally love it, and appreciate that even in this Godzilla homage it still acts like a confused animal.

Finally, Hammond's speach over the shots of Sorna would have been the perfect end to the franchise. fin
