Can #MalcolmX revolutionary politics serve us today?
Jonathan Ellis: Yes, you can see his evolution throughout his time, which means he wasn't exclusive to one dogma. Instead, he was able to look at what was going on around him. Everyone can be of service to Black revolution. We have to engage in politics in an intelligent manner.
Dr. Jared Ball: Yes. Every condition that faced #MalcolmX exists today or is in fact worse. To me, it's a non-starter to suggest that his ideas would have no relevance today.
Dr. Ball: We should engage electoral politics as organized blocks, running our own candidates on our own platforms and agendas that would be beholden to our communities. If we are going to engage in electoral politics, then that's how we should be doing it.
Dr. Ball: We should be critical or walk away from the 2-party system, or we should be engaging in a very different way rather than waiting to see who wins the primary and voting for the lesser evil. #MalcolmX #MalcolmXDay
Dr. Ball: Police do locally what the military does nationally. And we see that today. The war machine of the US has expanded beyond what existed in his time...There's a number of ways we can engage his ideas today. #MalcolmX #MalcolmXDay
Yusef Bunchy Shakur: How we engage electoral politics is on the premise of an unfinished thought process that Malcolm was developing...Within a liberation struggle, the more you're removed from the [political system we see today], the more you can push like Malcolm. #MalcolmX
