No new cases today but some new information was released.

Provincial COVID-19 Surveillance is the latest in Manitoba’s effort to quietly inform.

The following relate to cases up to and including week of May 3 – May 9. Data is extracted up to May 15 for lags, fixes, etc.
First up — exposure.

11.1% of Manitoba’s reported COVID-19 cases have an unknown source of the infection.

This is community transmission.

The province only considers the first (index) case as community transmission.

A smidge over one in ten cases.
Next — severity.

The ‘nn in hosital including nn in ICU’ have made counting the totals exceedingly & unecessarily difficult.

To date, 33 Manitoban’s have been hospitalized including 14 in ICU. That’s 11.4% of reported cases require hospitalization and 4.8% have gone to ICU.
Risk factors

Four of the reported cases are pregnant women.

No one thought mothers-to-be were immune but knowing that 1.4% of reported cases were pregnant women might have been good welcome info for a chunk of the province.
Outbreaks

I’m still not clear what the threshold is before an outbreak is declared.

We’ve had three so far including one in LTC.
HSC
Paul’s Hauling
Poseidon Long Term Care
7 of 34 cases affecting health-care workers are of unknown origin.

That’s one shy of the reported number of HC workers who contracted COVID-19 from travel.

20.6%

The majority of transmission to health-care workers is close contact with a known case. This is not expected.
Finally for tonight, weekly respiratory visits to emergency department (WRHA)

The average number of daily ED visits for influenza like illnesses (ILI) was on par or above that of previous 3 years.

Likewise the percentage of total visits was at or above the previous 3 years.
There’s no data to accompany these charts but counting the bars tells me the drop in avg daily visits only happened in the last month or so.
