It's not the Koutoubia of Marrakech, as you might think. It's not even in Morocco. It's in Florida, USA. [Story-Thread] 👇
2/ The story goes far back to 1965 as one of Walt Disney's ideas for a "futuristic" city. In 1982, the world witnessed the opening of Epcot, a themed park built at Walt Disney World Resort, in Orlando, Florida . It stands for "Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow".
3/ Walt Disney was very passionate about this idea of gathering the world's cultures in one place.

That's how "The World Showcase" was born. It's a section of Epcot that consists of 11 pavilions, each themed to a different country.
4/ Walt Disney was so in love with the authentic Moroccan culture.

And guess what? The Morocco Pavilion was the first expansion to be added to Epcot. It opened on the 7th September, 1984.

It's located now between the Japan and France pavilions.
5/ And the story just got interesting. Walt Disney and King Mohammed V were good friends.
6/ King Mohammed V visited Disneyland in 1957 after Morocco's Independence.
7/ In 1982, Walt Disney contacted King Hassan II and asked for his help.

King Hassan II sent Moroccan artisans to design and build every building in the section.

The Moroccan government still sponsors the pavilion. It's the only pavilion run by a government.
8/ The Morocco Pavilion, designed to look like a Moroccan city with a realistic Minaret, features the only pavilion in which the country's government aided in the design.

Visitors gain insight on lifestyle and culture of Morocco through the Gallery of Arts and History.
9/ The Fes House shows guests the typical Moroccan house. Inside the pavilion, North African plants including citrus trees, date palms, and olive trees. The pavilion plays hosts to entertainment, including a belly dancing show in the evening.
10/ Restaurant Marrakesh, along with the Tangierine Cafe, serve Moroccan fare, including roast lamb in Tajine, Couscous, and Harira soup...
11/ Six shops adorn the pavilion, selling patrons everything from rugs to leather goods, and traditional Moroccan clothing.
12/ The pavilion has realistic replicas of the Koutoubia Minaret of Marrakech, the Chellah necropolis of Rabat, and Fez’s Bab Boujloud.
13/ The Koutoubia Minaret is the highest building in Epcot city.
14/ The Moroccan section is the most visited pavilion in the World Showcase of Epcot.
