Stars owner Tom Gaglardi on The Ticket says "it's a bit of a horrifying thought" to think about NHL without fans. Said he doesn't think we need vaccine to see fans back in stadiums. Also admitted he doesn't know the solution to get fans back in.
Gaglardi mentioned models of plus/minus 4,000 fans in stadium where people could social distance at game. "Next week we might have some sort of a way that prevents people from dying. It may not be a vaccine, that could be a game-changer too."
"Could you stand outside your stadium and have 18,000 swabs and swab everyone in and take their temperature? I don't know. I don't know where this goes, when we play or what the circumstances might be. It's a fluid situation."
"We are just hoping to play. It's important for our league to play, whatever that looks like. Crown a Stanley Cup champion whenever that is. If it's in a neutral site with no fans, if that's where we end up landing, then obviously probably no financial reason to play ...
..but we're motivated to play for the right reasons. It's important for our league and I think we are in the same boat as NBA. Players want to play, that league wants to play & we are all trying to do the same things and finish our seasons and we owe it to our fans & our players"
"It's a crazy amount of stuff we have to clear over to get our selves into a position to play. But we are determined to do it and I think we'll play -- as crazy as the protocols might be. We're not going to play if we think there is a chance we can't finish the whole key...
...with all these protocols and a lot of the planning goes into 'alright somebody comes down with it,' what's the protocol? because you can't shut down, you just can't shut down. That's the highest hurdle to clear."
Gaglardi says we'll figure out and you'll see sports this summer, not just hockey but other sports as well.
Gaglardi says the Stars have always preferred a later start to NHL season then it currently happens and would like it to be a more permanent change. "We'd like to get past baseball, get high school football out of the way and find those golden months in a market like Dallas."
Gaglardi says if the 20-21 season starts late the Stars would hope it would be precedent setting to push league back to later start
Gaglardi says he's not lying when he says he has no idea what it'll look like like when it comes to playoff format.
