To be “friends” is to imply that there is an intimate, friendly relationship in which one exchanges the intimate details of their day-to-day lives with the people that they consider their friends. This is why I don’t think we can be friends.

I’m not going to be interacting with you in that way. I’m 24 years old, it’s not appropriate for me to be doing so. What can be appropriate are small, non-intimate interactions where we exchange island ideas and a mutual love for this game.

That being said, I hope that you feel comfortable enough to reach out to me if an adult on this platform is NOT behaving in the way I’m describing now. If they are trying to be overly friendly in a way that makes you uncomfortable. Please let someone know.

I was groomed as an 8th grader by a much older man (he was a senior in high school, about to graduate) and much of our “friendship” took place over text. It ended when he told me he wanted to be my first kiss because “no other boy deserved to be”.

I would hate to see the same happen to any of you. You can see me as, like, a maternal figure, a role model, island inspiration, whatever, but I just don’t feel comfortable with you seeing me as a “friend” until we’re in the same stage of life. /end thread
