Quick notes on copyrights, a thread:
You own the copyright for your content the moment it is created, even if you do not register the copyright. As the owner of an unregistered copyright, you are able to protect your rights by filing DMCA takedown notices.

You CANNOT however, file suit for copyright infringement...
...Filing suit in federal court for copyright infringement is necessary to collect monetary damages or to respond to a counter notice under the DMCA. And filing suit in federal court requires a registered copyright...
...You may register your copyright AFTER the infringement is discovered, but such late registration may prohibit you from recovering statutory damages in court. Statutory damages can run up to $150,000 for willful copyright violations REGARDLESS OF THE ACTUAL DAMAGES SUFFERED...
...So register your copyrights early and keep a lawyer on speed dial. If you don't, you are fighting copyright infringement with both hands tied behind your back.
