In celebration of the 20th anniversary of Dinosaur’s release, I’m going to be making a thread featuring more behind the scenes artwork from this movie.

This was one of my favourite movies as a kid, despite it being quite a tense and violent film. https://twitter.com/uniquepaleoart/status/1130162133512142849
A couple storyboards, including the scene immediately after the meteor shower and the scene where they’re seeking shelter in a cave.
Concept art.

This is just a personal opinion, but I like how Carnotaurs are the villains of this movie rather than T. rexes. Their faces look quite different from those of T. rexes, which I just find kind of refreshing.
More concept art, including several paintings of the cave.
Many of the backgrounds in this film were actually live action, with shooting locations including Hawaii, Australia, Jordan, and Venezuela. The scenery in the last two pictures is from Venezuela.
Character development drawings of Aladar and Bruton.

While most of the anatomical choices are catering towards the needs of animation, I like how everything seems to be rooted in its own logic. In my post from last year you can find muscle diagrams drawn for the characters.
Character development drawings of Neera, Bruton, Aladar and Zini
Character development artwork of Plio (first two images), Suri and Yar.
A maquette of Eema, along with drawings of Baylene, Url, and a parasaurolophus.
