Here’s my input on the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut:

First of all, I was a big fan of Man of Steel, BVS, Wonder Woman and evening Justice League. I wasn’t fan of Suicide Squad, but for the majority I was a fan of the DCEU.
There’s a lot of variables about this that really bother me. This whole #ReleaseTheSnyderCut needs to be put to rest. Honestly, it’s really annoying that this is continuing to be a story ever since the release of Justice League two and half years ago.
Look at where Warner Bros is at with their DC movies. Ever since the release of Aquaman, I would argue that Warner Bros is in a much better, positive and healthiest position for their DC movies before Aquaman.
All 4 movies were both critically favored or box office hits. Aquaman and Joker both made over $1 billion, with Joker ever earning and winning some Academy Awards.
Shazam was VERY favored from critics and Birds of Prey, while not the box office smash they hoped for, was liked by the majority of critics. 4 new DC movies have been good to great, in the grand scheme of things.
You couldn’t really say that with the “Zack Snyder” vision of the DCEU because Man of Steel & BVS were divided movies. I certainly favor them far more than most people, but I can’t put my head in the sand and pretend that they were not wel liked movies.
They all may have been hits, but the quality didn’t land with most people. Suicide Squad also had the same critical reception that BVS did, and even that wasn’t executed effectively.
Wonder Woman was clearly the movie that they needed, but that clearly didn’t help in Justice League favor. Justice League was supposed to the epitome of where Warner Bros was at with their DC movies. And look what happened?
While not a bomb, the result of Justice League was an unmitigated disaster for the studio. Why? Because the audience gave up. You kept shooting them in the foot over and over to the point where they turned on you and didn’t show up in droves with your DCEU movies.
Money doesn’t determine quality, both positively or negatively, but look at the box office returns for Transformers The Last Knight and compare it to Transformers Age of Extinction.
Ya see how significant of a drop that is? That’s basically the audiences way of telling the studio “we don’t care anymore.” Which is why I thought Bumblebee had the hardest hill to climb coming out after the slog fest that was The Last Knight.
But look at what Bumblebee manage to accomplish. It was Paramounts way to start over by softly rebooting the Transformers franchise, even though we’ve already been introduced to Bumblebee before, it still presented with new characters and different dilemmas.
My problem with the #ReleaseTheSndyerCut is that we’re trying to go backwards when going forward and fixing their franchise is working WAY better for them, in the long run.
You’ve got such good will with the “DCEU” now, why would you want to go back? Ben Affleck isn’t playing Batman anymore, Cavill is probably never gonna be Superman again, no one knows the deal with Ezra Miller and I’m convinced we’re never going to see Ray Fisher as Cyborg at all.
All you have is Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Jason Momoa as Aquaman, and evening their future sequels are worrying about the future, instead of trying to fix what could have been.
Despite WW84 being set before BVS, it still gives it a chance to rekindle it’s world building and not worry about the events that happened in Man of Steel or BVS.
Aquaman, Shazam, Joker and Birds of Prey work better because they work as standalone movies. Sure, Aquaman, Shazam and Birds of Prey may have small references to events that happened in other movies, but it’s not pivotal to their narratives or the characters journeys.
Also, yeah it’s cool to see this movie, but you do realize that Warner Bros probably has to invest some money in this? There’s no telling how much, but it’s probably a good amount.
It’s also NEVER going to be released in theaters, and yeah putting it on HBO Max sounds fine, but it’s probably not going to get the attention that they think it’ll get, so it’s probably just a waste of time to release it in the first place.
I’m not saying I don’t want to see Snyder’s actually cut of Justice League. I just think it’s wasted too much time to be released because I feel as if Zack Snyder has moved on from this, as he should. It’s in the past. Let it die
Zack Snyder, I contend, has not made a home run for most people because he comes across as style over substance. Besides Sucker Punch, I like ALL his movies, but that’s a fair argument to have regarding him as a director.
Even something like Black Widow, which also might be a bit too late, will have something that WILL set up something for the MCU, whether it’s in a movie or a TV show. What is Zack Snyder’s cut for Justice League going to set up? Nothing.
The Zack Snyder “vision” clearly didn’t work. It didn’t meet the critical success that Warner Bros hoped for and with each movie, aside from Wonder Woman, being divisive was not a good sign.
My honest opinion the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut is a waste of time. Even IF it gets released, what’s it gonna do? It’s probably just gonna create more drama, if you ask me.
It also seems like a loss for Warner Bros to invest MILLIONS of dollars to put it out there. I know this thread was A LOT longer than it needed to be. I had a lot to say. Hope I didn’t offend anyone who may read this.
