I just finished watching Crazy Rich Asians properly for the first time (yes I’m late. Yes I’m ashamed) and when I say I screamed and cried and cheered at four different points, I mean it.

These were the four exact points where I fully lost it so I rmmr. Spoilers ahead obviously
When this art piece of a wedding aisle comes to life and the music stops and she walks down the aisle and Rachel and Nick look at each other and she cries? I’m not a crier for weddings but ooof. The weight.
When Rachel wins Mahjong and figuratively slaps Eleanor across the face for holding onto her prejudiced values. And then walking away with her mum? Priceless.
When Astrid finally leaves that man and accepts she doesn’t have to live in a shell and slouch to make him feel like more of a man and finally wears the earrings and walks off.
When they’re in economy class and you can see Rachel’s words worked (obviously) but the fact that Eleanor gives her own ring as a sign of acceptance? Classic and heartfelt.

Special mention: the Chinese lady saying yes for Rachel. I died.
I’m a sucker for a good rom com but was so refreshing to see something so heartfelt and culturally specific. Entirely relatable to us as well. I’m currently on a film high so everything feels good and positive right now and I love the transformative nature of cinema for that.
The cinematography and writing is brilliant and on point. The colors kept me screaming throughout. The sharp jokes Awkwafina makes throughout? I lived. And I’m sure the book deserves credit for that.

Constance Wu is such a baap actress I love her. Henry Golding giving me envy.
And the music was so so spectacular. The cant help falling in love? Beautiful. Americanized and out-of-place a bit, but beautiful. The scientist creeping in the back? Shook. But I specifically loved that one asian woman always singing the songs at the events. A legend.
I meant Yellow whoops
