✨the science behind why we’re all sad that shera ended, a thread!✨
first off before i start this i want to put the disclaimer out there that i am in no way an expert on this!! i hav been researching media studies for about 2 yrs in college & i hav conducted studies on binge watching, content analysis, etc.
ok so when looking at our favorite show, there’s 2 main theories we have to keep in mind- cultivation theory & parasocial interaction. (i know this sounds complicated/nerdy but bear w me)
cultivation theory basically states that the more time we’ve spent invested in our favorite show, the more likely we are to perceive the environment & characters as real
parasocial relationships describes how we seemingly form relationships with television characters bc our brain views them as real people
now take into account the state of the world rn- all of us are being deprived of our normal social interactions bc we’re stuck in quarantine
so this plus the fact that a lot of us shera fans have been rewatching the entire series in order to prepare for s5 has set up a situation where we feel extremely attached to the show & it’s characters
and now that it’s over, not only do we feel a loss of the media we enjoyed consuming so much, but now it’s amplified bc we’re still stuck in quarantine
so, it’s basically like we were stuck on a deserted island with our best friends, but now all of a sudden they’re gone, and we got left behind😬
it seems as if all of us are going through the same thing- a lot of my tl has been mutuals who (like me) have barely been able to eat/sleep like they normally do after the finale of shera (thanks a lot Noelle😔)
but!! it’s not all bad!! talking & laughing about our shared experiences of watching shera does help us feel a little better! we can all commiserate by making memes or bond over the episodes/scenes that we enjoyed the most
Shera has proven to be such an important show to all of us. Personally, it taught me so much about about love, strength, & friendship. Although I’m really sad that it’s over, I am happy to have witnessed something so amazing #ThankYouNoelle
& for the fans that think that shera is over, look around!! the fandom isnt going anywhere. look at atla stans, the show ended 12 years ago & we’re still going strong!! shera helped pave the way for more lgbtq+ stories in animation & i cant wait to see what the future holds!
thanks for listening to my rambling about a kid’s show of a blonde jock princess & her cat girl gf! and in conclusion, CATRADORA IS CANON!!
