I wasn't there for the whole of the #NARisingstars panel but here's a little rundown of some of advice that was given for anyone who missed it...
1. Try things even if they seem scary/don't be scared to give everything a go.
2. Be passionate and excited about what you're doing and also don't be embarrassed to be passionate or excited about something (whether that thing is your job, your niche or a story)
3. If you're talking to editors at networking events, share some story ideas you have with them
4. And speaking of networking events they're highly recommended..virtual or otherwise
5. Don't be afraid to approach people about story ideas outside of networking events either
6. Try and keep your Twitter professional.
7. Twitter can be used as a portfolio
8. When starting a portfolio ask yourself if you have a particular USP/personal experiences that you can use as a base to build on
9. Be versatile in the content you produce for your portfolio
10. If you don't know alot about a particular niche that's ok as long as your willing to put in the work and effort to learn.
11. Your portfolio is like your baby, you should be proud of it AND you should treat it as such
12. There is no one right way to create a portfolio
So it turns out this thread is going to be alot longer than I thought....there was ALOT of good advice...
