my fave music-y things about tdc:e - a very long thread (i hope no one reads this, please let me live)
oh also, it's been a few years since my last music class, so don't quote me on anything i've said here hehe
okay drama! this is an incredibly strong start to the album!! i love how the piano slowly fades in when the song starts
the piano chords repeat themselves in most of the song, but everything really gets switched up in the, you guessed it, bridge!! oof i love the bridge so much
the piano is absent in the bridge, which u can FEEL after it being present for the entire song. there's also some type of percussion which i THINK switches to doubletempo (don't quote me on that)
there is a single jazzy piano chord in the bridge. specifically in the break, along with an amazing vocal run. the break rly lets the vocal run shine!
there is almost no horn in the bridge, but the little there is in the very beginning when entering the bridge is an accidental note (a note that isn't in the key signature of the song), which creates tension and unpredictability!
the vocals also sing notes that are outside of the keysignature
the bass plays the same note repeatedly in the bridge, which builds up tension and gives listeners a sense of relief when it finally starts playing something else!

when entering yj's part after the instrumental part of the bridge there is CHROMATICISM WOOO! (note how the horns and the bass steps upwards kinda like stairsteps lmao)
i'm not entirely sure of who's singing here but there are octaves in the chorus following the bridge! i think it's soobin doing the upper part while taehyun does the lower part? i might be completely off, but yes, i love octaves
n e ways, moving on to cysm ;-;
cysm rly plays around with earplacing or whatever it's called, you'll notice this if u listen to the song with headphones. especially in the beginning!

i love the autotune and distortion of their voices. it rly adds to the gritty feel of the song and fits with the lyrics (textpainting!)
that part after the first chorus where almost every instrumental disappears and their voices are super distorted? yeah.
moving on to fairy of shampoo! the bassline in this song is so groovy YES I LOVE IT
there's some type of effect over the entire song, like some sort of filter? it makes the song rly echo-y and dreamy. it also makes the song just a tiny bit unsettling, there's just a small sense of something being off, which also fits rly well with the content (textpainting!)
the sax solo. yes. i love that.
the chorus also has an accidental note, but that's apart of the original song. i just thought i'd point it out anyways, since it was one of the things that stood out to me the most in the preview
maze in the mirror!! so so proud of bg for producing this
i love adora's (?) harmonious background vocals in the chorus and the bridge, it rly adds to the floaty feel of the track
i love the part before every chorus that sounds like the "please don't give up on me". the guitar chords are very short, almost staccato like, which creates a break in the flowy feeling of the song. also love how for every time that pattern shows up another instrument is added
the vocals in the bridge are so so beautiful, i would k-word someone for that bridge. also love how the electric guitar slowly becomes more and more prominent
so far there has been NO DRUMS, the guitar was the only thing carrying the rhythm, but they finally make an appearance in the final chorus! i think it's a real drumkit too, not generated sounds. either way they last chorus is much more powerful and impactful bc of this
i just wanna hear maze in the mirror live with bg playing guitar and hk playing the drums, is that too much to ask??
there's a lot of room in the song for the lyrics, which undoubtedly are the most important part of the song. NO this song isn't simply "a decent" track just bc it isn't musically interesting >:(((
OKAY puma!! this song is super bass and percussion heavy. it also uses autotune in a way that isn't overpowering, but rather accentuates their vocals!
lots of empty space in this song, especially during the rap!
when one member like, clears his throat,, it's an odd gimmick but i like it
okay finally, eternally! this is such a cool, cool song!! lmao idek know what is happening in this song and i'm not gonna try explaining anything. all i know is that there are a lot of sharps (or flats?) and it must be a bitch to play this song ;-;
more textpainting!! the lyrics depict an inner battle which is reflected in the music very clearly lmao
their voices are CONSTANTLY BREATHY, in the ballad part the vocals are very floaty and dreamy, while they're lower but still whisper-y in the creepy part. it makes the song seem almost unreal, like we're switching between dream and nightmare (textpainting,,)
the song ends kinda abruptly without any resolution which i thought was interesting,, instead of ending the song, it might as well continue into yet another creepy verse. it's an endless loop, they're endlessly battling with themselves
OKAY THAT WAS IT!! i'm sorry for spamming akjskajk this is a terrible thread lmaooo
if u read this very long thread, thank you! i hope everything made sense
i love every song in the album even if i didn't say much about it,
and last note: lack of complexity â bad music!
