I love love LOVE the use of futuristic 90s visual language over the glitchy yet smooth aF RnB in NCT 127& #39;s Punch. Visual highlights include: the use of purple (in trend atm? love that); (1/?)
the overexposed shots of Taeyong and the orange/white/scarlet shots of Jungwoo looking like they came right out of a 90s/00s teen magazine; the melted glitchy visuals behind shots of the members looking all bad boy and beat-up, oof babe lemme clean those wounds for u (2/?)
I& #39;ve not seen something this gorgeously glitchy and grungy since the MV for BTS& #39;s Blood Sweat and Tears (Japanese ver.) and I& #39;m so freaking glad to see it come back up again in this specific way and with such visibility that might inspire other KPop MVs in the future (3/?)
And the MUSIC - chefkiss. It& #39;s got the RnB groove I haven& #39;t heard used in such a pure way for a TIME. Maybe it& #39;s bc I know NCT well enough to feel for them as a modern "boyband" that I see such a deep connection to stuff I literally haven& #39;t heard like this since I was a kid (4/?)
And I& #39;m bringing it back to the GLITCHINESS again because the use of the synths and computery noises is something I love. Not only have I really been digging the burgeoning popularity of "PC music" over the past few years, it& #39;s now super on-trend and adds amazing texture (5/?)
With something as smooth as RnB, percussion and other "lower down" parts of the instrumentation can really make or break the vibe imo, and the texture from the synth voice and the clear punchy drum hits make this song even more powerful. I love it so much (6/?)
The sound is fresh and new and in-your-face but also refreshingly familiar, lulling me into comfort during those smooth prechoruses but then yeeting me right out of that with the harsh whispering and tough raps. And how could I forget the fucking trumpety bit?? BOI (7/?)
