To make us better writers, my high school english teacher taught us a common idiom, phrase, or saying every day.

Recently, I noticed Taylor Swift incorporates idioms in her songs. I think they make her lyrics more powerful.

Here's a thread of the ones I found:
For starters, here are Taylor's song titles based on idioms or sayings:

- Out of the Woods
- All Too Well
- Wildest Dreams
- Dancing with Our Hands Tied
- Dear John
The Archer:

And I cut off my nose just to spite my face
Then I hate my reflection for years and years
The Man:

They'd say I played the field before
I found someone to commit to
You Need to Calm Down:

Snakes (sticks) and stones never broke my bones
Daylight:

Luck of the draw only draws the unlucky
Lover:

My heart’s been borrowed and yours has been blue
So It Goes:

You did a number on me
But, honestly, baby, who's counting?
Getaway Car:

"X" marks the spot where we fell apart
Call It What You Want:

My castle crumbled overnight
I brought a knife to a gunfight
State of Grace:

You're my Achilles heel
This is the golden age of something good
And right and real
Mine:

I was a flight risk with a fear of falling
White Horse:

I'm not the one you'll sweep off her feet
Lead her up the stairwell
Breathe:

You're the only thing I know like the back of my hand

Never wanted this, never wanna see you hurt
Every little bump in the road, I tried to swerve
Taylor said reading as a child inspired her songwriting

"I could read about other characters' feelings and other characters' lives and their triumphs and their downfalls and it took me to a place that alleviated the pain of my reality, and that's what music does for me."

The whole school is rolling fake dice
You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes
