Allowing himself to be vulnerable to his parents. But even with his parents he still keeps a certain distance, he doesnt want to worry them. Loving someone means baring yourself raw in front of them, physically & emotionally. & for someone like Type, that mustve been terrifying.
Here comes this guy, who he is subconsciously attracted to even when theyve only met for a week (seriously guys, the way Type describes Tharn in the book, you'd think he already has a crush). & Type thinks they could get along.
But he's from that group of people Type hates/fears the most. But he actually likes the guy! So what's he supposed to do? He decides he'd rather cut ties with him now while he likes him, instead of letting it reach the point where he starts hating him. And this thinking reflects-
What he told Tharn in their break up scene. If we are gonna break up in the future, why not break up now before things get worse. Type is the kind of person who tries to deescalate conflicts first, despite being as hotheaded as he is.
But with Tharn all of that goes out the window. He feels fear but it's fear of losing Tharn. He feels hate but it's hate for his jealousy. He feels anger because he is frustrated with dealing with all this emotions. He feels loved but he doesnt know how to deal with being loved
so he yells and he punches and he picks fights because that's what he knows to do. And he knows it's bad, he isnt being a good boyfriend. But he tries. He tries so hard to open himself up when his brain tells him to push him away. He tries so hard to break down his walls-
Brick by brick and he knows he shouldnt, because it's not safe outside these walls but it's for Tharn and Tharn will keep him safe right? People are always saying "Type that's your boyfriend, you should trust him!" But do you realize how hard trust is for someone like Type?
People always throw Type under the bus like, What does Tharn see in him? Tharn is better off without him. I hope people realize that when you say that ... that's like saying people like Type deserve less just because they are difficult to deal with.
Yes Type was (sometimes still is) an asshole. He was super toxic. But he tries his best to compromise. He knows he isnt perfect, he knows he is still a work in progress. And Im pretty sure he's super thankful he found someone as patient as Tharn.
TL:DR Type Thiwat is a complex character and people should stop throwing him under the bus just because he is not the picture perfect likeable character who magically changes for the better overnight because of 'looove~'
