The state of #Mississippi @msdotgov is under the HIV endemic. The greater part of new HIV diseases in the United States happen among African Americans in the Southeastern United States. #Mississippi is the 4th most HIV positive zone in the US. @msdh
@tatereeves
Some Stats from 4 years ago:

- In 2016, around 10,000 people were positive
- 69.3% male | 30.7% female
- 72.9% Black | 3.2% Hispanic/Latino| 19.1% White
- 383.0 per 100,000. Rate of people living with HIV (2016)

Data retrieved from: http://aidsvu.org
African Americas are the most affected group. However, this is no coincidence. Social Determinants of Health teaches us that economic income and financial freedom can dictate whether an individual will have a healthier lifestyle or not.
The state of #Mississippi has a high number of households living in poverty.

According to the CDC, is the third highest with Households living below the federal poverty level | 2018
The previous chart shows us that there is correlation between poverty and a high infection rates amongst blacks.

This next chart proves that African Americas have the most HIV rates.
So what now? The reason why I am creating this thread is simply because I am trying to address this issue public to create social awareness. The goal behind this is to suggest few interventions that can help stop and reduce the spread of this endemic. @msdh
@tatereeves @msdotgov
The Social Determinants of Health for this case are:

- Economic Stability: Debt, Medical bills, Income and unemployment.

- Neighborhood and physical environment: Transportation & Housing.

- Education: HS graduation rate & sexual education.

...
- Community and social context: Social support, community engagement with this issue, support systems, discrimination and segregation.

Health Care System: Expenses (too high), resources, establishments, providers, and health coverage.
Different interventions to act against this HIV issue.
