the italian translation of Harry Potter ϟ
before we start, I will give you some info: the first two books were originally translated by Marina Astrologo, while Beatrice Masini worked on the others. they both are two incredible women who, in my opinion, did a marvelous job, bc translating hp isn't easy at all.
you will see many names that will not make much sense if you don't understand italian; I will therefore try to explain the reason why certain changes were made or give a literal translation, at the best of my possibilities.
in this thread I will not be listing every single translation bc it doesn't make sense: certain names and concepts are translated differently in every language. I will show you the main changes that were made through the translation, and explain why they (usually) make sense.
β€” Gryffindor - Grifondoro
(lit. golden griffin)
β€” Slytherin - Serpeverde
(lit. green snake)
β€” Ravenclaw - Corvonero
(lit. black raven)
in the first two books it was translated as Pecoranera (lit. black sheep), thank god they changed it
