Why the Trent and AWB comparisons should stop - A Thread
Likes and RTs appreciated and also feedback because this is the first time im doing something like this
So first let’s talk about Trent and his role in the liverpool Squad.
Liverpool play almost a 4-4-2 diamond with salah and mane coming in more centrally while firmino drops deep to act like a CAM meaning that the right and left wings can be occupied while they are on the attack.
Robertson and Trent are both known for their highs assist numbers while being fullbacks and this is because of the number of crosses they put into the box
Trent averages 10.7 crosses a game
While Robertson averages 5.10 crosses a game
in comparison mane and salah average 1 a game
if you look at these numbers you can clearly see the main playmakers in liverpool’s squad are robertson and trent but don’t let the myth of trent not being able to defend distract you, they both have to defend AND attack in order for the system to work.
Now let’s move on to AWB, United usually play a 4-2-3-1 or any variation of 5 atb but for this thread let’s focus on the 4-2-3-1. Ole would either have dan james or greenwood out on the right flank and if it’s DJ he usually drifts wide and stays wide while greenwood comes in.
This means that whenever on the attack, the right flank is already occupied which allows AWB to stay back and not occupy that flank and this is evident from his numbers.
AWB averages 2.58 crosses a game and DJ averages 3.03 crosses a game.
More evidence of awb having a greater defensive responsibility than trent is he averages 5.2 tackles and interceptions a game compared to trents 2.8.
Long story short the roles both players play in their squads are different. Same position, different roles Trent is a playmaker and AWB has a lot less of an attacking responsibility.
