the way so many people view haikyuu is that it’s an inferior shounen series bc it isn’t in an open world fantasy with big scary monsters & super powers. In fact, the fact Furudate is capable of telling such an impactful story through volleyball only proves how incredible they are
The matter of fact is that haikyuu has vastly better written characters and arcs than most of your favourite action shounen do, and if you view it simply as a ball go whee series u clearly haven’t even read it lol.
Haikyuu deals with grief, trauma, burnout, insecurity, abandonment, has a large range of its cast including its main characters depicted with some of the best neurodivergent representation out there, and manages to connect personally to readers in a way fantasy series just can’t.
