Our virtual #TownHall is starting now! We will be discussing the ways #COVID19 has disproportionately affects marginalized communities, including immigrant families, families with low-incomes, and communities of color.

Dr. Eduardo Ochoa, Pediatrician @archildrens & Principal Investigator @ChildrensHW, uses the #HungerVitalSign to understand #foodinsecurity severity in his clinic. Seeing how food insecurity has⬆️during #COVID19 in clinic, his hospital has now given hundreds of meals to families.
Dr. Ochoa emphasizes that the patchwork system his hospital has created giving out meals cannot feed America the way #SNAP & #WIC can. #SNAP *must* be improved in the next #COVID19 bill such as by⬆️the minimum SNAP benefit & removing rules like asset testing.

Ms. Jessica Frazier, an Advocate @Witnesses_BOS, explains because her children are now at home there is an⬆️in how much she is spending for food & the food in grocery stores have⬆️in price too.

#SNAP & #WIC are vital for her family & the families she advocates for.

Ms. Luz Arevalo, an immigration attorney @BostonLegalAid, describes her work w/ immigrant families who often work in positions deemed #essential during #COVID19 but have no legal status. Families are struggling to make a living to support themselves & families they help back home
#Myth - All immigrant families do not pay taxes & are not part of the system.

#Fact - Many #immigrants have #ITINs & are doing civic duty by paying as much taxes as citizens. However, they are not getting the same benefits during #COVID19, including #CARESAct stimulus payment.
#ActionAlert - For our #Massachusetts friends, submit written testimony to Bill H.4726, which would provide equal stimulus checks to #immigrant taxpayers.

Allison Bovell-Ammon, Director of Policy Strategy @ChildrensHW, emphasizes that deep health disparities are now being exposed & exacerbated during #COVID19. Any policy that helps Americans must help everyone, including mixed-status families & immigrants.
Cerlyn Cantave, Engagement, Equity & Inclusion Associate @ChildrensHW, describes how in Chicago, 29% of community is black, but make up 70% #COVID19 cases; in Milwaukee, 21% of community is black, but make up 81% of cases. Structural #racism is big contributor for this disparity.
Black communities are often excluded from access to #COVID19 testing; many are going to hospitals, but aren't getting the same level of care. 16.2% Latinx & 19.7% Black workers aren't able to work from home & many of them are essential workers,⬆️their risk to getting COVID19.
Many of @ChildrensHW policy priorities during #COVID19 are centered around ensuring all families have enough $ to afford basic needs. This includes supporting policies around #EITC, #CTC, direct payments, #SNAP, emergency rental assistance, & investment in childcare.
#ActionAlert - Right now Congress is considering the next #COVID19 stimulus package.
