Aight so now that Avatar TLA is on Netflix. Let me put my opinion out there on the show since I’ve seen the whole thing multiple times and have been able to let it marinate for a while. So here go my thread
Avatar TLA might just be the perfect animated show. It’s well written, well animated has amazing characters, an interesting world and very little storytelling flaws if any at all.
Like I always can think of times where I’ve watched a show and been like, “ok that conclusion was a little rushed.” Or “ok this is a little ridiculous” but I’ve never noticed it with Avatar TLA.
There’s never a point where it got too childish like the neflix She Ra show, and there’s never a point where it seemed to get too preachy or on the nose like the 2011 Thundercats show.
It’s deadass a feat that TLA could be so narratively tight, because Amazing shows that came before and after haven’t managed to be so sound in its writing. Even though TLA gets a lot of attention I honestly think that it should be something that people teach with in school.
Avatar TLA should be a template that people should look at more often when they want to make a dramatic and narratively driven show that can appeal to kids and adults. Honestly it should be talked about WAY more than it is.
Now I’m not going to get too much into Legend of Korra in this thread. I’ll use another for that one, but I’d but it’s narrative very VERY slightly below TLA. It’s still an amazing show and worth a watch especially after Watching the original. but it lacks the same consistency.
While TLA is Consistently good, Legend of Korra hits both higher highs and Lower lows in terms of Narrative tightness. I think the Consistency TLA offers is more important and that’s why it’s higher.
