"I will not leave you as orphans. I will come to you." John 14:18

This promise is fulfilled in three moments, all explained in this chapter:

1. Jesus comes to his disciples in his resurrection (14:19)

2. Jesus comes to his disciples through the indwelling Holy Spirit (14:17)

3. Jesus comes to his disciples in his return (14:3)

As we prepare to celebrate Ascension and Pentecost, let's remember that to receive the indwelling Spirit is to receive the one Triune God in his indivisible being and action:

"You know [the Spirit of truth], for he dwells with you and will be in you...If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him." John 14:17, 23
