Here is a quick rundown thread of all the serialized prose stories that have ran as backup features in Conan comics since Marvel reacquired the license. Note that these stories are currently only in the individual comic book issues and not in collected editions.
The cream of the crop is “The Shadow of Vengeance” by Scott Oden that ran through THE SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN issues 1-12 and acts as a sequel to the Robert E. Howard Conan story “The Devil in Iron.”
Another fine Conan story is “Black Starlight” by John C. Hocking that ran through CONAN THE BARBARIAN issues 1-12. It coincides with Hocking’s long due to be rereleased novel CONAN AND THE EMERALD LOTUS and the long due release of CONAN AND THE LIVING PLAGUE from @perilousworlds
Not a Conan story, but an excellent Solomon Kane tale is “The Get of Garm” by C.L. Werner that ran through the back pages of CONAN: SERPENT WAR issues 1-4.
A much better read than the comic itself is the Bêlit story “Bone Whispers” by Michael A. Stackpole that ran through AGE OF CONAN: BÊLIT issues 1-5.
Finally, for a story that precedes the events leading up to Robert E. Howard’s Conan story “The Phoenix on the Sword,” you can read Matt Forbeck’s “The Fall of Thoth-Amon” which ran through AGE OF CONAN: VALERIA issues 1-5.
