“we’re all in this together” is a convenient thing to say when you and your family comfortably stay in your well stocked homes without worrying about what the next hour holds for you. this phrase is a myth when class, caste and gender are the deciding factors. (2/n)
when we talk of space, while the elite has spacious lawns for their children to play in, the rural and urban poor are locked away in overcrowded arrangements, if any at all. those with abusive partners, violent parents or hostile families, have no place to go to. (3/n)
for you, your home is a safe space, but for others it was a place of intense fear before and now it’s even worse for them. for you it’s undoubted stress and loss of freedom but for others their present and future are now defined by turmoil. (4/n)
covid-19 might be an inconvenience for you but for many it’s incredibly disastrous.
the singular sin at this point is to not acknowledge what’s happening around you and continuing to act oblivious. (5/n)
if the pandemic has shown us anything, it’s that none of the essential work in the capitalist economies-healthcare, teaching, food services, electricity/energy services, media production- is done by the billionaire CEOs (6/n)
