People might misconstrue your outspokenness & financial pragmatism as snobbery & insensitivity.l

I'd also like to remind you that @SenMiriam subscribesd to this legal school of thought:

"People who are situated similarly, must be treated equally."

The middle class may make more than the poor. But it doesn't mean they're doing better. Some, too, are barely making ends meet.
