During the same visit, he took an unannounced trip to the Alhambra Theatre, where he'd once performed, and invited all the chorus girls back to the Central Hotel for afternoon tea.
On his first trip to Glasgow, as part of a tumbling act, he was rolling about the stage of the old Panopticon Theatre in his vest and pants.
On later visits, he would stay at the old George Hotel, at the top of Buchanan Street - within walking distance of the Empire, Pavilion, Lyric, Savoy, and Royal Theatres.
