A President Romney would've appointed judges who would've voted against marriage equality.
I know that Romney is a more decent and honest man than is common in the Republican Party these days, but he would not have fought for justice or the civil liberties of oppressed peoples. He would have upheld marginalization and rigid social conservatism through government.
I would love to see the emergence in this country of a political party that focused on upholding and supporting *all* families rather than trying to gatekeep who got to count as a family.

Imagine a family-first conservative who didn't exclude a gay couple & their adopted kids.
Imagine a family-first conservative who valued the lives and dignity of immigrant and refugee families as much as they did white protestants.
We don't have that though.

What we have is a version of conservatism which is rooted in denying full participation in society to whole classes of people based on their identities rather than their values and behaviors.
Even the decent, honest, family-oriented conservatives who may treat others with dignity during their interactions with them still want to strip them of their rights to full participation in our society.

That can never be acceptable.
