Definition of insomnia

Insomnia is a common sleep disorder that can make it hard to fall asleep, hard to stay asleep, or cause you to wake up too early and not be able to get back to sleep. You may still feel tired when you wake up.
Insomnia can sap not only your energy level and mood but also your health, work performance and quality of life.
How much sleep is enough varies from person to person, but most adults need seven to eight hours a night.

At some point, many adults experience short-term (acute) insomnia, which lasts for days or weeks.
It's usually the result of stress or a traumatic event. But some people have long-term (chronic) insomnia that lasts for a month or more. Insomnia may be the primary problem, or it may be associated with other medical conditions or medications

•Nasal/sinus allergies.
•Gastrointestinal problems such as reflux.
•Endocrine problems such as •hyperthyroidism
•Arthritis
•Asthma
•Neurological conditions such as Parkinson's disease.
•Chronic pain.

For example if you are in severe pain, you will never be able to sleep
Anxiety, stress, and depression are some of the most common causes of chronic insomnia.
Majorly insomnia are caused by anxiety, stress and depression

When you are worried of what tomorrow holds, you have been hurt, you are depressed

Acute:probably for two or three days, you discovered you couldn't sleep. This is majorly caused unhealthy sleeping pattern. This pattern maybe fond of pressing phone or surfing the internet when you should be sleeping, setting or planning the night for watching film...
...and any other things you deliberately set the night aside to do when you should be sleeping. For acute, once you stop those activities, you start sleeping normally

Chronic:For months, you couldn't sleep or barely sleep for two hours daily...
... This is majorly caused when you are seriously depressed, or having health issues

However for it to stop, you need to seek the attention of a medical personnel
Symptoms of insomnia
Symptoms may include difficulty falling or staying asleep and not feeling well-rested.

Sleep: sleeping difficulty or daytime sleepiness

Cognitive: lack of concentration or slowness in activity

Also common: depression, headache, or irritability

Treatment of insomnia
Treatment for insomnia consists of improving sleep habits, behaviour therapy and identifying and treating underlying causes.

Check yourself first, is it acute or chronic?
If it is acute, what is causing it?

Is it that you set aside the night to play games, watch films or other activities?

Once you discover you didn't put sleep as your priority, change your sleeping pattern and balance your daily activities
For chronic, you need to seek medical personnel attention.Don't just go for sleeping pills when you are suffering from depression
