Not meant to be a depressing thread but am I the only one who thinks the Internet just fucking sucks now? You can see by my tweet patterns that I'll sometimes go on and off and be inactive many times. The Internet (mostly the web) meant more to me when there was less.
This is not some sort of oldhead/nostalgiachasing/"boomer" thread about why I wish things were back to the way they were. I really am happy with some new things that content creators on the Internet have brung that our past users were not able to do. But, computers to me...
feel less like my own machine. It feels like something I own just for the sake of having to own them, instead of back when you really had a reason to use the Internet. It's one huge market where you make a product, be a product, or consume the product. Think of how the...
Internet of Things are, selling a product because the product can go online. And large followings like the Internet of Shit pretty much show people that many of us are dissatisfied with that. The web is a hub to share media to me, to communicate with others. If I want...
to buy something physical, I go to a store. And, If I want to buy something digital, I go and download it online. There was a time you needed some technical competence to use the web, and back then I feel things were just smarter because we all shared some computing knowledge.
The rise of "fake news", a "war of information", and the rise of demand for cyber-security professionals (in my country anyways) just tell me and make me believe the people who use the net have lost their touch and computing skill. You don't make your own sites anymore, you...
don't make your own channel in an IRC network anymore, nor do you make your own private services for the people you know you can trust. You consume a social media website (like I am right now) because that has the largest audience. And that makes me feel cold.
Even some 4chan users say that their site has had a downfall. And that could be true, individual websites and online media don't have their own culture like they do now. If it's a meme, then everybody knows what it is. Inside jokes will always be better for me.
(this thread is going on too long, so I'll stop it here abruptly)

this may go on brett dot icu, in better description and detail rather than me spamming my tweet box with improv and ranting
