I think "Size and power of government" is a canard. It's never really what we're talking about. The question is the mission and capacity of the government. Is the government an institution of care or an institution of coercive violence? https://twitter.com/AndrewYang/status/1262417111588245506
Start from that principle, and let the size of the government follow from our mission, and the capacity it requires.
Put another way. Were the government small enough to drown in Grover Norquist's bathtub but it's just one guy who taps phones and shoots people with impunity that's not really the libertarian paradise we've been promised right? That's still oppressive government.
In conclusion this thread grew out of my desire to call something "a canard." All of the other words in this thread are merely bloviating.
