I have been following Google Stadia's launch with some excitement. I am not sure why as 1. I have a capable (not exemplary but totally fine) gaming PC and 2. Google has a very long history of both disappointing product launches and prematurely killing off their beloved programs
Also, 3. there are other (much more established) similar services that I should get excited about. Nvidia's GeForce Now, Microsoft Xbox Game Pass and, most importantly, Microsoft's upcoming Project xCloud
But- the Google Stadia launch was still exciting. I bought into the hype that Google would deliver a high end gaming PC experience to anyone's junky PC. That it would be relatively cheap. And that they would have innovative new gaming experiences.
Their original Stadia presentation talked about coop features that were incredibly cool. Allowing popular streamers to give invite codes so people could play alongside. Saved memory states that you could share the exact moment of a level you were in. 1000 player battle royales...
Also 4k gaming at 60K a second. Instant loading of any game. No downloading updates. Sign in and play from any Chrome account (from a phone, a chromebook, a pc, someone else's PC) whatever. Just really exciting stuff.
Well, as you can guess with the tone of this thread, the launch has been pretty disappointing to many. I don't know if any of the social features I mentioned are available, months after the launch.
