Around two months plus into this fucked up situation. A few random thoughts.
Time flies now. It crawled in the first two weeks, now it's flying. April is over, May is more than half done. We don't feel time any more.
From my very limited well, as a frog, I don't see any sympathy for the poor. It's one thing to cry at what we see on TV. It's another thing to rage at beggars.
And there are many, many beggars. In real life. The old, the young, the helpless, women, kids, the physically challenged, they're on the roads. The despair is brutal and it will crush your tender heart.
We've been a very disciplined lot. No, I don't care for your outrage at people "breaking lockdown". The rage of the poor can easily turn into violent riots. The poor have been very patient.
The rich are expectedly without sensitivity. This is a generalization but I think the upper middle class and rich have placed themselves on some pedestal.
We've kinda given up on hope now. We know this won't end. And Mumbai can't stay shut forever. These are two extremes we can't understand so we're just ignoring this.
The real action is happening on the ground - from local help to jugaad to getting things done. If you're looking for specific stuff (where to get xyz, etc), I suggest you check out Facebook Groups instead of Twitter.
Those of us secured, stocked, and shacked up in our homes are thumping their chests that Mumbai lockdown should go on till at least June/end, July/end. Let's see what they say if doorstep essential supplies are totally banned.
OTT is junk food now. We're just watching to kill time. Even great series will be forgotten because we're just bingeing so much.
And finally, my heart goes out to my city of Mumbai. Our numbers aren't slowing and our collective patience, our collective hopes are getting tested everyday. All the best to us.
