When the assault on Breonna Taylor and Kenneth Walker’s character comes (and it already has), I want y’all to remember a few things:

• Nobody deserves to be murdered in their own house, and especially when they’re in bed.
• Black people get the choice to defend themselves if they believe they are in danger.

• The police need to be held accountable when they make mistakes.

• Our current model of policing is flawed and inherently racist and needs massive reform.
• What the police thought doesn’t matter; they were in the wrong place shooting at the wrong people.

• Breonna and Kenneth’s past sins or affiliations don’t mean that they deserve to have their home invaded and to be shot at 22 times.
• Breonna was hit by eight (8) bullets. EIGHT. That’s not self defense, it’s brutality.

• We should not have to emphasize that she was an EMT or any other “good” and “respectable” thing about her.
• Breonna’s life had value beyond what she contributed to society. Black people should not have to prove that they were good before we will speak out about their murders.
• Breonna was murdered by the state. Her murder was the result of a general disregard for black lives and a system that would rather kill people than attempt to rehabilitate them.
• Breonna’s life matters.

• Black Lives Matter
