Two great things about Star Trek II is the callback to the original series with Khan and creating repurcussions of that story, and the introduction of the 'Kobayashi Maru' idea of dealing with situations where there are no easy answers.
There were lots of #StarTrek episodes that could have used to explore repercussions. Indeed, Star Trek The Motion Picture is leaning heavily on an earlier episode as well. However, they decided to tell a similar story instead of building on the old.
Khan had the advantage of Ricardo Montalban's charisma and star power, as well asthe original episode ending with Khan marooned based on Kirk's ideas of what was fitting. Wrath of Khan has personal relationships all over it.
Knowing the original #StarTrek Space Seed episode wasn't even required to enjoy Wrath of Khan, but it does make the movie juicier.

The episode shows a group, one man in particular, with ambition, talent, ego, and the philosophy of the Wolf.
I say 'philosophy of the wolf' as that hits what Khan is - the Leader of the Pack.

In comic books, a common trope is that the 'bad guys' always fail Teamwork 101.

Wolves understand both the individual but the power of the pack.
And what is the Federation but "By our powers combined" kind of Utopia?

While Star Trek also gave us an explicit "Mirror Universe", I see Kirk's most potent mirror right there with Khan.

I'll pick this up later. Hailing frequencies will remain open.
