Considering it is #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek it would be great if there was more education surrounding complex MH issues such as OCD, BPD, Schizophrenia, Dissociative disorders, Bipolar disorder, PND, PMDD to name a few. We need to stop pretending they don't exist.
It's easy for us not to talk about them or read about them bc if we don't, they don't exist in our minds. However, so many people live with these conditions & more and do not get the help they need. Imagine living in a world where you're given a label & made to feel like a pariah
It's not shameful to want/have to educate yourselves about these conditions. They're not catching, like a cold. They don't just go away with a cup of tea either & they are so rarely spoken about that people who suffer with them feel like they don't exist.
The help out there is non existent. Did you know some therapists actually don't trust/act differently towards people with BPD as they are seen as being 'manipulative'. Imagine that, unable to even trust someone that you're supposed to trust will help you.
OCD is something that is thrown around loosely now & has taken on a completely different meaning. Imagine being petrified to step out of schedule because you are convinced that if you do, you're going to cause someone's death. But you're told that it's crazy talk & calm down.
Imagine having your condition mocked in popular culture because you have people living inside your head, people only you can hear that convince you to do bad things. Things that are out of your control because those people in there take over.
Imagine once a month being taken over by an invisible force that controls your emotions so severely that you want to die. But then being told that it's just your hormones. Unable to go to work or get out of bed because of physical pain but being told it's part of being a woman.
Imagine feeling like a stranger in a vessel just watching the world go by like a big white screen inside your mind. Everything so delicately placed around you ready to crash down at any moment. Imagine feeling so disconnected from reality you feel like you're dead.
This thread probably won't be read by a lot of people, it won't be as popular as a tweet telling you that it's okay not to be okay. When actually it's not okay not to be okay, because attitudes towards these complex conditions haven't changed. That is the reality of it.
