Can we have a frank conversation

Once again you complaining about same faces on tv.

Lemme not dwell or rehash the business of hiring talent & certain people, people like @AndileNcube have addressed that more eloquently than I have to.

Let’s address your role as the viewer
I watch shows like Skeem Saam, The River, Lithapo, Muvhango, Gomora, etc and I see numerous new faces.

Jiva and #BloodAndWater on Netflix have new faces as leads.

Numerous movies I have covered have new faces

YFM is filled with non-celebrity talent. Gagasi just hired new DJs
Commit yourself to watching local content for a week and trust me you will see people you don’t know on tv.

The last 5 years has seen a throng of new talent being cast in various project in SA.

So why the narrative that there no new faces in SA entertainment?
Yes, the media has a penchant to focus on the careers of a select few. That does affect the prominence of the perception that only 10 people are working in the business.

However, reality is different. But, I want to put this on you, the fan or viewer.
What are you doing to elevate new talent on these platform?

How often do you see someone new and use your platform or resources to make sure others know they exist?

Are you following these people? Are you showing them support?
Are you rallying behind their projects?
Another thing...

Just because you want to act and you not getting a job, that does not necessarily mean the doors are closed.

Just because you want to do something, it doesn’t mean you are good at it and dare I say; have the talent for it.

Sometimes it is just not your time
Lerato Kganyago was rejected numerous times until she eventually got her break.

Tembsie Matu only got her big break with The Queen, after years of toiling in this business.

Why do you think you need to just walk in and be a star?

Yes some people are lucky. I know.
Do you know these actors? Do you support their careers?
Do you know these radio personalities? Do you support their careers?
Le busy moaning about Somizi and 5 girls just because that who the media choose to obsess over.

Believe me, LOTS of people are working in this industry. Lots are on your screens and radio but you don’t pay them attention, you don’t follow them, you don’t show them any support.
