Quite spectacular circular blame game erupting this morning on why contact tracing was stopped. Science Committee blames PHE, but PHE says Matt Hancock took the decisions, while Cabinet colleague Therese Coffey points the finger at the "wrong" science. A taster of things to come.
No10 refusing point blank to play blame game today (advisedly). Total refusal to say who took contacting tracing decision. Slap down for Coffey too, with declaration of love for SAGE: “The PM is hugely grateful for the hard work and expertise of the UK’s world-leading scientists"
Another apparent slapdown for Grant Shapps too - that's two Cabinet ministers on the naughty step today. No10 refused to endorse his hope for air bridges to save summer holidays. "Not an agreed government policy".
And for good measure, No10 puts clear distance between the PM and Donald Trump on taking hydroxychloroquine for Covid19. PMOS: “It’s not something which our own medical experts are recommending. It’s not something we recommend doing”.
