I would like to introduce you to the world's most newly described species of miniaturised frog, Stumpffia froschaueri, endemic to the Sahamalaza region of Northwest Madagascar🐾

https://zookeys.pensoft.net/article/47619
This small and inconspicuous frog measures around 1 cm in length and inhabits the leaf litter of relatively undisturbed forests. Habitat loss across its limited range suggests it should qualify as Critically Endangered
The species name honours Christoph Froschauer (ca. 1490 – 1564), a renowned printer who's family name means "the man from the floodplain full of frogs". Froschauer used to sign his books with a woodcut showing frogs under a tree
Its description highlights the Sahamalaza region as an important hotspot of amphibian diversity, with
several threatened species relying almost entirely on the persistence of residual forest fragments
