1. Hayek

I find it interesting that many who study F.A. Hayek, like to point out that he “favored universal healthcare.”
2. Hayek -

Road to Serfdom:

“Where, as in the case of sickness and accident, neither the desire to avoid such calamities nor the efforts to overcome their consequences are as a rule weakened by the provision of assistance – ...”
3. Hayek

“...where, in short, we deal with genuinely insurable risks – the case for the state's helping to organize a comprehensive system of social insurance is very strong.”
4. Hayek’s comments in “The Road to Serfdom” are distorted by BOTH sides (left and right).

The left use his comments to mean Hayek would give blanket approval to something like ObamaCare.
5. The right will point to Hayek’s concept that central planning leads to authoritarianism and Serfdom for All (except the rulers).
6.

More insight is gleaned in Hayek’s book, “The Constitution of Liberty” where he reviews the “impossibility of centrally MANDATING requirements of health insurance coverage.”
7.

The Constitution of Liberty:

“There is no reason why in a free society, government should not assure to all protection against severe deprivation in the form of an assured minimum income.”
8.

A Hayekian Healthcare System would provide redistribution of $ to cover CATASTROPHIC medical issues... It would NOT be a comprehensive plan and would still utilize market forces.

Free market healthcare coupled with catastrophic insurance
9. Hayek

A system like Britain’s NHS or Medicare For All would be unacceptable because they offer healthcare outside the free market
10. #Hayek

Hayek was not an anarcho-capitalist.. He did feel that government had at least SOME role for healthcare... He would disagree both with American healthcare before ObamaCare, ObamaCare itself, and Medicare for All.
11. Hayek would advocate a policy that maintains market mechanism and would involve CATASTROPHIC INSURANCE and Savings Plans along with annual cash payments to the poor

Eliminate welfare

Institute UBI + free market healthcare + catastrophic insurance + health savings plans
