side effects is more of a “concert”/“live” song that increases the energy in the crowd and the sonic uniqueness of it leaves lasting impressions in the audience !!!! which is super impt to increase their fanbase/reach which is actually a really smart move
-the juxtaposition between the “chorus” (aka meori apueda with screams) and the really pretty melodic verses may seem jarring at first,, but that’s the literal point of the song itself. side effects is literally about the anxiety because of the choices u make and the fact [...]
[...] that it sonically reflects the meaning of the song is just !!! really goddamn cool !!!! which brings me on to my next point
-how the piece sonically reflects the title/meaning of the song also translates into the deceptive tempo/speed variations !!! how the really aggressive rap builds the speed up only to seemingly slow down in the verses ,, the overall speed doesn’t actually de/increase [...]
that much but they do “divide” (think pies—same pie, just smaller pieces aka faster speeds) and play with the rhythm which makes it seem as though the song is speeding up/slowing (when it really doesnt fluctuate that much) and i think that’s really really cool
-the triplets in the dance break (DUDUDU DUDUDU arm punch thing),, if u dont know already many of us are whores for rhythm/music in triple time,,, the fact that u can manipulate those triplets for live stages like the mbc daejejeon for the dance break is just . fresh
OKAY ONE MORE THING ABOUT THE TRIPLETS THEY ARE WHAT U CALL RHYTHMIC DRIVERS so basically they keep the song “moving forward” rather than being stagnant what this does is create a base level of energy and aura that makes side effects side effects
also???? the utilisation of silence??? god tier it feels like the feeling of falling where ur stomach drops on a roller coaster??? u just realise all of a sudden how layeref the instrumental is????? and thats so cool
in conclusion side effects isn’t easy on the ears—it isn’t supposed to be. it’s a song about anxiety that come along w making difficult choices, nd that’s exactly what this track is putting across aurally. it is however, musically fascinating and shouldnt be dismissed as ‘n*ise’.
