When my husband had neurosurgery 4 year ago, his eye lost 50% of its function.

When I spoke to the surgeon he bluntly said “We saved your husband’s life but couldn’t save his eye. What would you rather have, a husband or his eye?”

So we thanked Allah swt and tried to accept it
But then a few days later, my husband’s aunt called and the conversation changed our lives.

...

Aunt: how’s your eye?

Husband: Allah swt saved my life,we’re grateful and happy with what He’s decided.

Aunt: Listen, this is Allah swt! Ask Him for your life AND your eye!
Aunt:you can’t say Allah swt has no limits and then put his capabilities in a box.The surgeon spoke from a doctor’s perspective and gave you the best info to his knowledge. But you know Allah swt is greater than anything! He’s capable of ANYTHING! So don’t be stingy with your dua
Aunt: ask without setting limits on what Allah swt can and can’t do.

Both my husband and I were stunned into silence because it never struck us to think beyond what the surgeon told us. We were so caught up in the technicalities, we forgot Allah swt had the override button
So from then on, we started making dua for his eye. And Subhan Allah, my husband regained 97% of his eye movement by the end of that year.
Just posting this story as a reminder for myself before anyone else to ask Allah swt with an open heart and an open mind.

He is Al-Mujib
