the rise of kyoshi reread thread ///

(bc this time i can actually talk about it)
when i read mike's foreword, even before i'd read a single word of the actual book, i knew it was going to be good. i dont know exactly why i thought that but i was also right, so
did we ever find out why the earth kingdom test didn't work for finding kyoshi?
i havent even gotten to teenage kyoshi yet but i love her i love her i love her
there is so much love for avatarverse lore in the first chapter of the book that i cant help but just get sucked into it right away. it's just so sincere in a way that some of the other avatareverse stories by outside writers just... isn't.
the way kyoshi describes rangi in her head... gay activity...
"The Firebender stepped forward. Her fine jawline hardened, and her dark bronze eyes danced with aggression. The air around her body rippled like a living mirage, making the strands of jet-black hair that escaped her topknot float upward in the heat."

tbf to kyoshi... that's hot
fc yee was like:

i know what you're all here for so here's a chapter where i show you how much i love avatar, followed immediately by a chapter of kyoshi being incredibly bi
fc yee's mind when he was like 'kyoshi is going to accidentally recite a poem written by kuruk about rangi's mom and exposing not only the fact that she's the avatar but also that she has a crush on rangi'
kyoshi was in love with both of her beautiful and talented friends and i think that's just so valid of her
"But Kyoshi had never loved her Avatar more. /This/ was what Yun had wanted her to see when he'd begged her to come along. Her friend, standing up for what was right. Her heart was ready to burst."

smth abt this passage is making me feel Emotions
"It was clear. Kyoshi needed both of them in order to feel whole. She wanted her paired set of friends put back in its original place, before the earthquake had knocked everything off the shelf."

😢
"Rangi." Kyoshi tried one last time to growl in threat. Instead the name came out like a dedication of thanks to the spirits for this fiery blessing of a girl. It was futile trying to mask how Kyoshi felt toward her.
id forgotten how much this book makes me lose my mind!!! help!!!!
FASTBALL SPECIAL
kyoshi just barrelling through a town with absolutely no grace, i love her So Much
kyoshi's mom was spiritually corrupt etc etc but god damn... snake tattoos over airbender tattoos... i need to see the art...
you all know korrasami means the world to me but god rangshi is just... so much more substantial, they're so good yall 😭
hhhhh love how fc yee k*lled off kuruk early, not just bc it's funny, but also bc i love the idea of kuruk's Team Avatar being spiritually lost without their pillar but still having great influence on the world
he just did such a great job with pulling all these themes and concepts and history from canon and weaving them into not only a story that fit the avatarverse but REALLY enriches it and is also hella compelling
im not joking when i say the rise of kyoshi is HANDS DOWN the best addition to the avatarverse since atla itself, it's so good, please read it
"You don't have to forsake love," he said. "K*lling's not some holy art form that requires wordly abstinence."

like fc yee just KNOWS how to emotionally gut punch you with these references to the show
the kyoshi/aang parallels are so GOOD, i wonder how aang wouldve taken kyoshi's advice in the finale if he knew how similar she is to him
flameo hotman 🔥👀
if you can, PLEASE read the rise of kyoshi hardcover, it has just the most perfect page flip plot twist ive ever experienced!!!! it's so beautiful, i lost my MIND the first time i read it
i literally jumped out of my bed when i read this part, it was just so fucking good!!!
ngl before id started the book, i was a little worried abt how romance was going to be handled in rise of kyoshi bc i wasnt the biggest fan of the romance in the epic crush of genie lo but rangshi is just 👌👌👌
"mercy has a higher price than most people think."
It was the hopelessness in her voice that set Kyoshi over the edge, the complete surrender of a girl who would have been invincible if not for her love. Kyoshi had put that weakness in Rangi and Xu had torn it open. He was torturing the person Kyoshi cared about most in the world
I COULDNT TWEET THAT THE FIRST TIME I READ IT BUT I CAN NOW AND AHHHHHHHHHHH
the kyoshi-jianzhu standoff at the end *chef's kiss*
kyoshi best avatar
