According to the school’s EADA report, Furman enrolls 1,069 male students. Today, Furman cut two sports, baseball and men's lacrosse with combined rosters of 91 S-As, accounting for nearly 1 in 11 of the male students on campus... 2/
he NCAA caps baseball at 11.7 scholarships and lacrosse at 12.6 scholarships. So, 91 minus 24.3 = 66.7 S-As were attending Furman through some combination of academic aid, need-based aid, or paying cash... 3/
I know university finances are way more complicated than this and I know D1 athletic budgets and university budgets don’t mix, but the two complement one another. Let’s assume each of the 91 male S-As paid 30% cash ($15,253) to attend Furman. That figure may be low... 4/
The other 70% is paid through scholarships, including the 24.3 athletic, or aid.

30% = $1.388M, or three times the entire operating budget of both squads according to the school's EADA report, not including coaches... 5/
D2 and D3 schools have been using large roster sports to boost student enrollment for a long time. Perhaps D1 schools need to consider this as well.
