Remember all those stories about how it sucks to work in Amazon fulfillment centers and even before they were contaminated with an extremely contagious virus? Well, good news! The exploitative model will soon be expanding into other sectors. Shit https://twitter.com/bentarnoff/status/1262516806046175235
Lotta thought pieces or at least initial thoughts on how the pandemic is going to change our lives but all I'm seeing thus far is the simultaneous exposure of terrible companies (Amazon) and industries (gig economy) along with a voracious increase in their power/marketshare.
What I'm seeing on the horizon is that once we're on the other side, on balance people will have less secure jobs, in more exploitative industries and in unsafe environments, with weaker benefits packages, who are far more reliant on the kindness of strangers/clients to get by.
And it will all be happening in an backdrop of increasing political and social decay where people are (somehow) even more isolated and therefore, even less capable of exhibiting empathy and understanding...

So, bad news about that 'kindness of strangers' thing.
Really the only solution is rampant organization, union drives and mass boycotts.

Joe Biden ain't getting us outta this
Where do these people go when their UI benefits expire/dry up/are canceled by a republican governor?
The answer is the catch-all sector known as the Gig Economy, or to the fastest growing business on the planet in Amazon.
A rapidly advancing social and economic wedge is being driven into the American class structure, exacerbating an already unsustainable situation.

Altered Carbon-ass dystopia here we come...
Dehumanizing, inadequately compensated labor in a grueling, on-demand environment ruled by callous, unresponsive rent seeking superiors that too often relies on the unpredictable benevolence of transient strangers to make ends meet. https://twitter.com/JStein_WaPo/status/1262730726107209728?s=19

Millennials will continue to act as the primary fuel source for this predatory regime, but a growing portion of Gen X and even low hanging boomers will be subject to it in the near future. And DC couldn't give a shit. In fact, it's in their interests: https://twitter.com/VillaChicago/status/1264245810029617152?s=19
Once again from Mr. Singer (via WaPo) on the "callous, unresponsive, rent-reeking superiors" who are going to grind us all to dust and then bill us for the interment. https://twitter.com/HalSinger/status/1264338583076442115?s=19
