Pretty shaken up right now. I was coming back from doing an antibody test on Mission St. As I was leaving I saw a woman crying on the other side of the street. She was standing in the corner. A man approached and closed on her. Then bam, punched her straight in the face.
I immediately yelled "hey" and turned my bike around. I stopped about 20 yards away and called 911. I wanted to be close enough to make sure he does not hit her again, but far enough to call 911. But, I was too close. I had a bike bn my legs and a phone in my hand.
He charged me full speed. I was in the middle of Mission St. I tried to get off my bike and just tried to avoid his punch. He hit me hard at the top of my back. I heard him saying "calling the effing cops!". I dropped the bike and we both saw a police car coming at us.
He walked away and then started running. Police officer went after him. She had her lights on, but never turned on the sirens. A few people came to check on me and to tell me they saw everything. 2 minutes later the police officer came back. She said he ran away.
She said the woman did not want to cooperate, so there was nothing she can do. Asked me if I am ok. And that is it. A guy punches a woman in bright day light on Mission St., then charges a passerby for calling the cops, and walks with no consequences whatsoever.
I am kind of pissed bc the cop could not have put much effort into making sure the woman is ok. She came right back. Did not turn on the sirens. Did not even ask me what he looked like or what I saw. There was zero effort to get to a resolution.
