Have you guys seen Bosch?
I have allowed Bosch to consume my life. I spend my days fantasizing about where he will go next, what part of Wilcox he will be on. I want to see him go on more dates! Where will he eat next?! I just love this show so much. Thanks @PrimeVideo
It's silly but I get excited every time I recognize a street or a restaurant on #bosch It's a childlike thrill but I'll take what I can get in this weird new world. I also love how 90% of the show isn't him in just sitting in traffic trying to get to the valley.
Season II he was in Korea Town I think and was like "I came from Northridge" and I was like...K, you would still be there. Is it daylight outside? Then you're not going anywhere.
my google search over the weekend
And I watched the first season trying to, based on his view, figure out exactly where his house was. Then I found out IT'S A REAL HOUSE YOU GUYS. I'm gonna go drive by it later today...if anyone wants to come.
I had a call today with my LAPD detective and a DA (just dealing with a stalker, you don't have to be famous for that to happen, it's just a really unfortunate side effect of like, living your life and being a person) and we were going over options and at the end, the DA asked me
"do you have any questions?" And I said "yes...Are you watching Bosch? Because it's perfect for you. You need to see it. It's your world." And he said he would check it out and I went to this little area in my closet and I etched a notch into the wood."One more convert" I thought
What I love about Bosch is the realistic portrayal of Hollywood. It isn't Beverly Hills or just Malibu. It's the Wilcox police station and, as someone who lived on Wilcox for years, I can tell you they capture what an absolute hole those stretch of streets are.
My one note is that Bosch seems to eat on Hollywood Blvd a lot. Which is weird, because Titus Welliver doesn't look like 23 year old Swedish tourist looking for a combination Hookah bar Sneaker store, but okay.
I also appreciate that Bosch is rooted in his personal quest, a dark one at that, and not a man about vices. Detectives are always portrayed as hot high functioning alcoholics who fuck everything. Basically Don Draper with detective skills. However, THAT being said.. I would like
to see Bosch go on more dates. He listens to a lot of jazz and reads his murder books (I mean, who doesn't) but I would like to see him enjoy his life. I would like to watch him eat somewhere besides El Compadre. I bet he cooks.
I also think his boss, Lt Grace Billets, needs a better way into his scenes. It's always her flagging him down and saying something like "can I talk to you?" or "my office, now." I think, since she cares about him, she should call him by his first name more. Like, instead of
"Bosch" which puts her on the same level as the cops who are constantly calling him an asshole, she should, when she's mad, like a mother, say "Hieronymus!" But more like a catchphrase, like "he broke the rules again and saved the day! I need to speak with him...HIERONYMUSSSSSS!"
And she could yell it and he could pop his head in and say "you rang, Lt?" And she could then say "GET IN HERE, have a seat" and then she could reprimand him, all while knowing it's just a formality and she's actually proud of him.
I have a couple of other things I would like to see more of. I'm only on season 3 and I don't want to be cancelled because I gave away spoilers, because that's how fucking insane our society is, people would actually set someone's life on fire for a mild infraction because, hey
with the anonymity of the internet, why not publicly crucify someone for something that, in real life, you would never have the guts to say to their face. Maybe that's why I like Bosch so much, he says what he means and doesn't care who knows it because he is on the side of
justice. I'd also like to add that... Even with the show starting in 2016, him having a flip phone is insane. You don't live in a 1 million dollar house (it's actually around 760k, I googled) and have that phone unless you are deliberately trying to look detached which is, like,
a distinctly sort of millennial/hipster move. And that isn't Bosch. Anyway, I hope you guys watch #Bosch on @amazon - if you live in LA, it's nice to get a virtual tour of Hollywood since we can't enjoy our city. If you don't live in LA, that's okay, there's still plenty of murder
I have personally converted about 3 people in a week to watching Bosch. Jason Bernstein, who owns Bludso's/Cofax/Goldenstate told me about it and described as a "love letter to LA" and I thought... well, that sounds nice. LA needs some love now. But it's a Dad show, which
explains the sad cell phone, the love of jazz... the junk food and the boring to normal dating life. But then I remembered how much I loved True Detective (the first season, duh) and how much I love really plotty cop shows and a put upon hero. But really, it was the LA of it all
that made me want to watch it. And I'm glad I did. I think we all watch shows like this and, from behind the pages of our outlines, pitch docs and self obsessed instagram posts think "I bet I'd make a good homicide detective." Then you google like, what goes into becoming a cop.
And you see how much running is involved and how selfless the job is and you think.... Maybe I'll just stick to flexing online, that's where I'm needed most. I'm not afraid of blood but I don't like STARE when I get a needle in my arm at the doctor's office. Also like, I'm
positive I would do one of two things... 1- I would zone out listening to victim's statements. I already have a very low threshold for tolerating bullshit and or boring stories and I'm sure the amount of times people ramble or lie and you have to like, take it ALL down is 99% of
the job. Like, I even tell my friends "do not tell me about a dream you had or your 'crazy traffic story' because it's useless information. Okay so I'd be a bad listener and I don't think you can answer a 911 call and after they give you all the details, be like "I'm so sorry...
"but I spaced, can you start over? Sorry! I had such a crazy night and your story rambled. Okay, I'm listening, putting my phone down, sorry, I just had to send one text." Also I would fill out my paperwork wrong for sure. The biggest note I got from teachers in school was always
"slow down" or "please proofread." And, to this day, I get that note. It doesn't really matter as much since I do stand up (well, I used to... Now I just pose next to fucking grilled cheeses on my instagram and play with my dog too much, not really...it's never too much). But
I would FOR SURE get sloppy and not check a box or some other pedantic gesture designed for the sole purpose of slowing down bureaucracy and or covering the cities ass so they don't get sued. That's what most paper work is, btw, someone on the other end hoping you won't go
through the trouble of filling it out to claim our insurance or hoping you give up and never actually get through to someone at the cable company or your cell phone company and that you just die on hold. Anyway, I would for sure mess up and over look a line for a signature
and then it would be like "well, we had to let your stalker go free because on page five hundred thousand section C you didn't initial so we had to throw the whole thing out. #staysafe - but I know that one part I would be meticulous about would be name spelling, I've always been
very sensitive to ethnic name spellings. My name is Iliza (note the upper case i looks like a lower case L, bane of my existence) and it's Shlesinger without a C or a double S, and people think they are being cute when they, without taking the time to research or simply ask, mess
up my name and while it has not only reinforced, on a daily basis, how lazy and ignorant people can be, it has also made me sensitive to other people with unique names. Anyway, I would make sure I got that part right. Probably why Hieronymus Bosch (watch Bosch on Amazon)
goes by "Harry" because yeah, you can pick that hill to die on and correct every single person OR you can just go with Harry. The amount of times I've just been "Alyssa Sellingar" so I could get on with my life, well, if I had a dollar for every time, I'd probably have just
enough to buy the Bosch house up above Sunset Plaza. That's where it is you know, right up there. And I like knowing that. I like sitting in my house and power watching 6 episodes of Bosch in a single sitting and knowing that, not too far away, a hero dwells.
So, you should watch Bosch, it's complex story telling, compelling characters, just the right amount of violence and it's a nice look at LA. And if you have watched all of Bosch, there is also #theilizashlesingersketchshow on Netflix. I didn't start off this love letter
with the intention of mentioning it. I just wanted people to watch Bosch, but... I don't know. I've always felt pretty irrelevant on Twitter so I can't imagine the 15 people still reading this will hold it against me.
Who am I kidding, it's the feckless frontier of Twitter, I'm sure my love letter will be overlooked and the one line plug for my own show will be a reason to write this off. Anyway, in conclusion. Watch Bosch on Amazon and its sister show #theilizashlesingersketchshow on Netflix
