i keep seeing it brought up that "muting whatever you want to on your timeline is fine bc some people have mental health issues"
while this is 100% true i highly doubt most of the issue with this specific incident is with someone quietly muting terms

that stress them out, i think the issue here was that they were publicly announcing that they were no longer dealing with the "drama" on their time line. including poc and homophobia and racism in their muted words therefore associating really serious issues with "drama"

like if this person quietly muted words that were causing them stress or panic attacks or whatever the mental illness claim is, then i dont think anyone wouldve given a shit. thats not what this was though. it was the public announcement that minorities's feelings are "drama"

they included very serious things along side "toe beans" like that doesn't really send the message that you do take racism and homophobia in the real world seriously does it? Bc online space while it can be an escape... is still full of real people with feelings

real people who experience frustrating oppressive things all the time. IN THE GAME EVEN. theres too many cases of homophobic and racist people in the ac community to call yourself an ally and block out the words that expose them at the same time. thats just not how it works

at the very least this person could've kept that shit to themselves instead of proudly displaying that they were muting "poc"

ive muted stuff for certain periods of time because seeing it caused me great anxiety, namely rape and other forms of sexual assault. i understand the desire to mute things that cause stress, but by the way this person was acting i dont think that was the sole reason.
